Convert JPG to WebP

WebP produces noticeably smaller files than JPEG at the same visual quality, which is why it has become the default for image-heavy websites.

How to use it

  1. Drop your JPG files onto the box below.
  2. Set the quality. 85 keeps photographs looking clean.
  3. Press Process files and download the WebP versions.

How much smaller is WebP?

For photographs, WebP is commonly a quarter to a third smaller than a JPEG that looks the same. The gap widens for images with flat colour and sharp edges, such as charts or screenshots, where WebP is dramatically more efficient. Every current browser can display it, so serving WebP is a straightforward win for page speed.

When to keep JPG

Some older desktop software, print workflows and stock photo submission systems still expect JPEG. If a file is heading to a system you do not control, check what it accepts before converting. For anything going onto a web page, WebP is the better choice.

Questions

Does converting improve quality?

No conversion adds detail back. Converting reduces the file size at similar perceived quality, but a JPEG that was already blurry stays blurry.

Can I convert a whole folder?

Select every file at once in the file picker, or drag them all onto the box. They are processed one after another and can be downloaded as a single zip.
