How to use it
- Drop your WebP files onto the box below.
- PNG is already selected; there is no quality slider because PNG is lossless.
- Press Process files and download the PNG versions.
Why PNG rather than JPG
JPG throws transparency away and paints it white, which ruins a logo meant to sit on a coloured background. PNG carries a full alpha channel, so a transparent WebP becomes an equally transparent PNG with nothing lost. Choose the WebP to JPG converter instead only for photographs, where the smaller file matters more than transparency.
Expect a larger file
WebP compresses far better than PNG, so the PNG will be bigger, sometimes several times bigger. That is the cost of a format that every program can read. The pixels themselves are copied exactly; a lossy WebP does not lose anything further, it simply stops being small.
How the conversion works
Your browser decodes the WebP itself, draws the pixels onto a canvas and encodes that canvas as PNG. The file is read from your disk and written back to it without ever leaving the machine.
Questions
Does this work with animated WebP?
Only the first frame is converted. PNG has no widely supported animation, and a still image is what most people need from an animated WebP anyway.
Can I convert PNG back to WebP?
Yes, the PNG to WebP page does the reverse, with a quality slider so you can decide how small to go.
Will the colours change?
No. The decoded pixels are written out unchanged. Colour profiles embedded in the WebP are not carried across, which is only visible in colour-managed print work.
