What quality level should I use?
JPEG quality is a trade between file size and visible artefacts. At 80 most photographs are indistinguishable from the original at normal viewing size, while the file is often a fifth of what it was. Drop to 60 for thumbnails and images that sit behind text. Stay above 85 only when the photo will be cropped or enlarged later, because each re-save loses a little more detail permanently.
Why is my JPEG already small?
Photos exported from most phones and cameras are already JPEG-compressed once. Compressing again helps, but the gain is smaller than for an untouched export. If a file barely shrinks, it was close to optimal to begin with, and pushing the slider lower will cost visible quality rather than bytes.
Questions
Does compressing a JPEG reduce its dimensions?
No. The width and height stay the same and only the encoding quality changes. Use the resize tool if you also want fewer pixels.
Can I compress many JPEGs at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many as you like, then download them individually or together as a zip.
Is the original file modified?
Never. The file on your disk is untouched and a new compressed copy is created for you to download.
