About FileForge

FileForge is a small set of file tools that run entirely inside your web browser. It compresses images, converts between JPG, PNG and WebP, resizes photos, and shrinks PDF documents. There is no account, no queue, and no upload.

How it works

Every modern browser ships with a capable image encoder. FileForge decodes your file, redraws it at the size and quality you choose, and encodes it again — all on your own machine. PDF pages are rendered with Mozilla's PDF.js and reassembled with pdf-lib, both open-source libraries served from this site rather than a third party.

What that means for you

Nothing is transmitted, so there is no waiting on an upload and no file size ceiling imposed by a server. It also means processing speed depends on your own device: a large batch will be quicker on a laptop than on an older phone.

Known limits

PNG is a lossless format, so the quality slider has no effect on PNG output — real savings there come from converting to WebP. Compressing a PDF re-renders its pages as images, which shrinks scans dramatically but makes the text no longer selectable. Very large images are scaled to fit what a browser canvas can hold.
